Who is The Humbled Homemaker?

Esther is hosting a wonderful blog party this week where we're all invited to introduce ourselves and discover other friends within the same niche! I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to re-introduce The Humbled Homemaker to new readers--and give "old" readers a better look into my blog and life. 

Who are you?

Left to myself, there is nothing good in me! But by God's amazing grace, Jesus redeemed me at age 9 (21 years ago!). My name is Erin, and I'm a Christ-following, missions minded, Spanish-speaking, natural birthing, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, baby wearing, real food eating/cooking, frugal living, healthy living researching, newspaper and blog writing, bookworm wife and mommy!

My Family
My entire family has red hair! I've been wife to Will since 2005. We met while both serving as missionaries to Costa Rica. We married in my home state of NC, spent the first few years of our marriage in Mississippi, spent a semester in Vancouver, BC, Canada and moved back to NC 2 years ago. Little Girl is 3 and is super outgoing and spunky. Baby Girl, who is a little more "chill," turns 1 next weekend! 

My Blogging Journey
A year ago I had no idea blogs existed! Well, I really only knew of personal blogs, but it was during many long, late nights of nursing Baby Girl that I discovered a world of mommies who were educating and encouraging others through blogging.

I had always wanted a hobby. (I am terribly clumsy with crafts and sewing. I've tried--and I've failed!) Blogging seemed perfect for me. I starting posting some of my newspaper columns and stories back in January, and I officially launched The Humbled Homemaker in June. Since then, I've enjoyed meeting new blogging friends, encouraging other women and guest posting and writing for bloggers like Katie at Kitchen Stewardship, Stephanie at Keeper of the Home, Kate at Modern Alternative Mama and Jen at This Gal's Journey.

Series
I like to write in series, so my readers know what to expect. Here's what you will find at The Humbled Homemaker:

• Musing Mondays/Meal Plan Mondays: On a regular basis, I post on something related to homemaking every Monday. It might be a homemaking challenge I'm a part of (like 31 Days to Clean) or something the Lord had taught me in regards to keeping my home. For the time being, however, I'm posting meal plans as part of the Plan It-Don't Panic challenge.
• First Year Fridays: Each Friday I post on something related to the first year of life. I wrote an extensive series on breastfeeding, a post on teething and next week I will start a 7-week series on starting solids (with 4 weeks of baby food giveaways in November!). I will eventually have series on babywearing, cloth diapering, sleep schedules, etc. 
• Reminiscent Recipes: The 1st Wednesday of each month, I post a recipe accompanied by a memory. It might be anything from strawberry picking with a recipe for strawberry crisp to reminiscing on our newlywed days with a healthier version of crescent roll apple dumplings.
• Healthy Homemakers: The 2nd Wednesday of each month, I post on natural health. This might include anything from why I avoid soy to what's really in children's medications.  
• Homemade Homemaking: The 3rd Wednesday of each month, I post a recipe for something homemade that I previously bought pre-made. This can be anything from homemade disinfectant wipes to homemade taco seasoning to crock pot applesauce to marinara sauce to pumpkin pie spice (which I'll cover this week!).
• Parenting on a Penny: The 4th Wednesday of each month, I post on frugal living--with anything from inexpensive birthday party ideas to free homeschooling resources.
• Special Saturdays/Series: Occasionally, I'll post something special related to homemaking, natural living or a ministry to highlight. Upcoming short special series include a look at work-at-home moms as well as a short series on teaching racial respect/appreciation to our children (a hot topic in the Deep South--still.)
• Reviews and Giveaways: I LOVE hosting giveaways and reviews for products I enjoy! My goal is to host one giveaway per month, but I've had quite a lot lately! Check out the right-hand sidebar for current giveaways you can enter!
